Just fresh back from my days in the US. I spent a week in NY and I have to say, it all sums up to; I Love NY! Amongst all the toursit sites, there was of course the shopping. Ah! Bergdorfs was calling me. On the fifth level I found Alexander Wang, I had been looking forward to getting my hands on the T label and one of his bags. I pretty much by passed all the other designers in sight due to sheer excitment. Here are some photos taken back home, in the new year, in my new clothes;

empire state of mind

I'm of for a holiday tonight, a little over two weeks in the states. Fingers crossed I get my first white christmas in New York! There will also be a short visit to LA and four days at Disney World in Orlando. Roller coaster adrenelin rush here I come! I'll be back in the new year but in the mean time here is a couple of quick photos I took of two market finds.

The Sartorialist

Sass and Bide at GPO hosted Scott Schuman's book signing in Melbourne today. My sister bought me the book for christmas, so i've gotten to see my present early & getting the book signed by the man himself was the cherry on the cake!

I think if Scott was to pursue some sort of acting, he should definately try out for a Bond movie, there is definately a certain je ne sais quoi about him.

DRAPE at NGV

A little inspiration from a collection of works at the National Gallery of Victoria, titled Drape: Classical Mode to Contemporary Dress.

A little history that was displayed on the walls; “After animal skins, draped woven cloth was the first means of clothing, and in Ancient Greece, was worn in countless configurations to indicate class, gender and social positioning. Over time, the wearing of loose cloth has become associated with elegance, timelessness, comfort, wealth, prestige, divinity and barbarism.”

The Girl With A Feather and I went out for some crepes and collapsed in the garden at the gallery for some much needed resting of our feet before making it to see the collection that included, Comme des Garcon, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana and show pieces from Kylie Minogue!

Let's just say, i'm still obsessed with drapes. I made this skirt today with one cowl drape on the side and pockets. I wish I had pockets on everything, they're so handy. I'm also wearing my market find; a gorgeous blue necklace.

calling on lady luck

I did a design exercise today at RMIT that went on for two hours. I thought it was way too long to design three outfits, but boy was i wrong. In the last half hour I quickly coloured in my final looks, labeled them and wrote my rationale. The photos they gave me for inspiration was quite fitting really because most things that I design revolve around them anyway. The first was a lace bra, the second were neon lights and the last one was a flower. I called my looks, 'Une Fille Comme Moi' and used the inspiration to design a work to drinks outfit, evening dress and a weekend look. Fingers crossed that I get noticed out of the 600 odd people that are taking the design exercise.
